5 Simple Tests Every Man Should Do for Fertility

Infertility is often perceived as a female issue — but in reality, male factors contribute in about 50% of cases. Unfortunately, many men never get tested early. If you’re trying to conceive, consider these five basic tests:
1. Semen Analysis
This is the essential first test — assessing volume, sperm count, motility, morphology. It gives immediate insight into male fertility potential.
2. Hormonal Profile (FSH, LH, Testosterone, Prolactin)
Imbalanced hormones could reduce sperm production. Checking these levels helps detect treatable conditions.
3. Genetic Screening / Karyotype
In cases of extremely low sperm count or recurrent miscarriages, genetic abnormalities may be present.
4. Testicular Ultrasound
Helps detect varicocele, tumors, or structural issues affecting sperm production or drainage.
5. Lifestyle & General Health Assessment
Check thyroid, blood sugar (diabetes), vitamin D, lipid profile, liver/kidney function. Lifestyle factors like smoking, high heat, tight clothing, and heavy alcohol use also affect sperm health.
Closing Thought:
Male fertility is treatable in many cases. Early diagnosis and correction can dramatically improve outcomes — and it also reduces unnecessary burden on female partners.
